Some of the latest projects I have been working on over the last few months are now on view in the New Paintings album on the Works page. These include a series of Bluebell Woods, mostly painted in the Great Wood at Lanhydrock, where I can still venture with my mobility scooter. There are a couple of paintings of a Lavender farm in Devon – not your usual Lavender in Provence type painting but instead under English grey skies. I have also really enjoyed painting aspects of Port Isaac, Tintagel and the cliffs at Bossiney by Rocky Valley.

I have just uploaded my new series of Boscastle Harbour paintings. Most concentrate on the wonderful winter sun lighting up the hillside in glorious harmonies of gold, reflecting in the water within the harbour at low tide. The patches of sand and seaweed also revealed at low tide make interesting horizontal accents to break up the reflections. My Misty Morning painting is an exploration of rich harmonies in hot oranges and reds softened with mauves and bright cobalt blues in the shadows.

We have just returned from a painting trip – a cruise into the breathtaking scenery of the fjords in Norway. This was something that I have always wanted to do and I have to say the beauty of it all was beyond my expectations. So awe-inspiring was it all that at the moment I am still trying to take it all in as I go over it in my mind. On top of all that, the weather was too perfect to be true – bright sunshine that made the crisp and clear air sparkle. I hurriedly painted a little on location but our itinerary didn’t really allow for much. I now look forward to revisiting those glorious scenes on canvas at my leisure in the studio.

What an inspirational place. In the days when i could explore the Coast Path, I found all the best clifftop views – I sketched and photographed them. I have recently been working on several Bedruthan oils in my studio (in my mind i’m really out on the cliffs).

Adel and I drove over to Bedruthan last week. We went in both car parks. I struggled a few paces to see the views again – heaven! I suppose there’s a sad irony there though – so many people walking past us without a care and not really absorbing the views, while i’m desperate to get to certain places to be able to really take it all in and interpret it all on canvas and yet it’s increasingly inaccessible to me!

I shall publish these new paintings as a group very soon. I’m very proud of them.
