I have been experimenting making short videos of themed selections of paintings and uploading them on YouTube. I have set these to some of my favourite pieces of classical music appropriate to how I feel about the paintings. Norwegian Fjords

We have just returned from a painting trip - a cruise into the breathtaking scenery of the fjords in Norway. This was something that I have always wanted to do and I have to say the beauty of it all was beyond my expectations. So awe-inspiring was it all that at the moment I am still trying to take it all in as I go over it in my mind. On top of all that, the weather was too perfect to be true - bright sunshine that made the crisp and clear air sparkle. I hurriedly painted a little on location but our itinerary didn’t really allow for much. I now look forward to revisiting those glorious scenes on canvas at my leisure in the studio.

Bedruthan

What an inspirational place. In the days when i could explore the Coast Path, I found all the best clifftop views - I sketched and photographed them. I have recently been working on several Bedruthan oils in my studio (in my mind i’m really out on the cliffs).

Adel and I drove over to Bedruthan last week. We went in both car parks. I struggled a few paces to see the views again - heaven! I suppose there’s a sad irony there though - so many people walking past us without a care and not really absorbing the views, while i’m desperate to get to certain places to be able to really take it all in and interpret it all on canvas and yet it’s increasingly inaccessible to me!

I shall publish these new paintings as a group very soon. I’m very proud of them.

Trip to France

In October we travelled to Brittany staying near Dinan. I made several small oil sketches at various sites around Corseul where we stayed, at Mont St Michel, and Along the River Rance at Dinan, where I was particularly excited by the beautiful poplars on the banks with their autumnal tints.

Since returning I have been working on some paintings of the River Rance at Dinan as well as various commissioned paintings which needed seeing to.

We have created two new albums of paintings in the Works section - The New Paintings album shows the very latest paintings I have been working on, mostly seascapes of Trebarwith but also garden paintings of Cothele and Lanhydrock. The Wells Collection encompasses those paintings I completed of Wells in Somerset during the period when we lived in the town.

Internet Explorer 7 released

Microsoft have now released a stable version of their web browser Internet Explorer. I have been using beta versions to test this website for layout and it now appears to render some elements closer to how they were intended.

Primarily, this website was designed to be viewed, and will display correctly, in Mozilla Firefox. However, I understand that it may not be possible for all site visitors to use this.

~~There is currently an Internet Explorer layout issue with the menu bar on the gallery, but I am aware of this and will look to get it fixed.~~ Now fixed

A few more Still Life works have been added. Further new additions to the Works page will follow within the next fortnight.

Some Developments to the Website

This website has generated lots of new interest in my paintings and it is proving to be a great resource to show interested purchasers and gallery owners as well. We have added a new category of Still Lifes on the works page. While Still Lifes do not make the main body of my work, I often enjoy the diversion and the challenge. Soon we will be updating the Recent Works as I would like to post up some of my very latest paintings ‘hot off the press’. Maybe I will be able to show some paintings as they happen and explain what is going through my mind after Stage One, Stage Two etc.

Three New Giclée Prints available

I have recently published three new giclée prints of Trebarwith Strand. Please have a look at these in the Prints section of the Works page. The Prints are a substantial size - the shortest side being at least 30 cm (12 ins).

They are available by post, rolled in a tube or mounted and wrapped from my studio. I have framed some up in a new cream and gold outer frame and they do look stunning.
